Laminate flooring is easy to install and lasts forever

Laminate flooring is a tremendous choice if you are a do-it-yourselfer or even a contractor.  This friendly do-it-yourself floor-covering combines the rich look of hardwood with the easy care of a laminate counter top. You can lay it over basically any type of surface, concrete slab, sheet vinyl flooring, plywood or virtually any other type of flat, hard surface that is suitable for laminate installation.  Laminate flooring has become one of the best-selling flooring coverings in the United States.  Did you know the Europeans have been using laminate wood flooring for more than 20 years?  Quite simply, laminate wood flooring is a tongue- and-groove interlocking floor system that is installed over the top of the existing substrate, and simply lies there. 

Floating laminate flooring installation is suitable over basically any type of flat hard surface, including hardwood flooring, sheet vinyl flooring, concrete slab or plywood.  Known as the do-it-yourself friendly flooring, it makes a great project for the handyman on the weekend.  Most people in the United States and Canada are familiar with laminate counter tops. This is known as formica.  For the most part, laminate flooring should be glued together with a specially-formulated water-resistant glue.  This great flooring consists of four main components that are bonded together, a wear-resistant decorative surface made of resin-based aluminum oxide which in turn is bonded to a moisture-resistant wood composition based core.  Laminate wood flooring has a backing known as a balanced backing and is bonded to the underside of the core.  On the top is a clear sheet of aluminum oxide which provides the protection and stain resistance.
